The Benefits
of Rawhide Chews
General Benefits
Amatikulu rawhide is made from the inner hide layer of the best
quality free range cleft hooved bovine. Hides are transported to
our factory where they are washed for at least 15 hours. The cleaned
hides are layered over concrete horses to remove excess moisture
and then cut into different size templates. Afterward each rawhide
bone is individually handmade. Our chews are then oven baked at
60° celsius so as not to overdry the collagen fibres and make
them indigestible. Dogs will swallow small pieces of rawhide and
these will pass easily through the digestive tract but we recommend
that your dog should never be left unsupervised with a rawhide product.
Cleans Teeth and Gums
Because dogs have been domesticated by man they no longer use their
canines to tear through a skin layer in order to feed. As a result
their canine teeth become disused and prone to plaque buildup and
yellowing. Chewing releases moisture in the mouth which softens
the rawhide to act like a leather chamois, gently removing plaque
and tartar deposits. Care should be taken when feeding real bones
which are potentially abrasive on teeth and gums and may cause digestive
problems. To avoid periodontal disease rawhide should be used in
conjunction with regular brushing.
Satisfies Urge to Chew and Relieves Boredom
Our rawhide is tightly wrapped so as to be able to relieve boredom
effectively for many hours. Care should be taken however to remove
rawhide once your dog has chewed it to the point of it becoming
soft. Allow the softened rawhide to harden before reintroducing
it to your dog. Dogs and especially puppies have an innate urge
to chew, because Amatikulu rawhide is cream coloured and not overbleached
it is well suited to satisfy that urge.
